MORE ABOUT READ ALBERTA EBOOKS

Calgary Public Library is pleased to host this new provincial eBook platform dedicated to showcasing Alberta authors. Calgary Public Library members can access this collection through a link in our E-Library using their library cards.

As a bonus, the Read Alberta eBook Platform offers Calgary Public Library members simultaneous access to every title in this unique collection which means no long wait periods! Users can have a total of seven loans at one time and once they’ve finished with an eBook, users can return it for another.

We hope Library members (and you) enjoy discovering Alberta talent!

Keeping You Up to Date with Calgary Public Library E-resources

COMING SOON TO THE E-LIBRARY:

Cantook Station’s Alberta eBooks

The Public Library Services Branch has partnered with the Book Publishers Association of Alberta to create a collection of ebooks published in Alberta. The collection launches with 1,130 ebook titles by 24 Alberta publishers. These ebooks include a wide range of genres, and members will be pleased to find popular local titles, such as the Kananaskis Country Hiking Guide by Gillean Daffern. This platform is projected to launch in mid-February.

NEW TO THE E-LIBRARY:

Newspaper Source Plus

Newspaper Source Plus, a research source from EBSCO, is being provided to public libraries across the province courtesy of the Public Library Services Branch. This robust historical archive includes nearly 67 million full-text articles from more than 1,200 newspapers, newswires, and news magazines from major media outlets.

EBSCO UPDATES:

Due to security risks, EBSCO will no longer support Internet Explorer 8.0 or 9.0 as of July 2017.

ROSETTA STONE APP UPDATE:

The Rosetta Stone App has been updated to comply with Apple's latest security guidelines. This means that versions of the app installed before May 2016 are no longer supported on Apple products. Apple mobile device users will need to upgrade to at least iOS 9 and version 3.x of the app to continue to use Rosetta Stone.

OVERDRIVE RECENT UPDATES:

As a result of ’s ongoing upgrade to HTTPS in order to improve member security and privacy, some older devices and software versions may experience compatibility issues. Direct members to at help.overdrive.com/customer/en/portal/articles/2688756 to troubleshoot their device.

FIND WORLD LANGUAGE BOOKS IN THE CATALOGUE

As of 2016, Collections has been cataloguing all new world language books to allow members to search the catalogue for materials in their own language. The major task of reviewing and cataloguing all of the older world language books is underway, and will be completed this year.

World Language Collections themselves have also been undergoing change. There are now 21 World Language Collections (not including French or English) represented in the catalogue. These 21 languages represent current demographics, immigration trends, and member use. Updating the method of cataloguing facilitates use by members who read the language, as well as the Library’s ability to add and remove collections in response to Calgary’s changing needs.

What about French? As an official language of Canada, French is not considered part of the World Language Collection. French adult books have always been fully searchable in the catalogue. French children’s books are searchable in French and English to help English-speaking parents find reading materials for their children.

If you would like to know which languages we carry or how to search the World Language Collection, please read our FAQ on the website under Catalogue Searching Tips called, “How do I find books in my language in the catalogue?

RESOURCES CANCELLED:

Due to low use, Book Review Digest Plus and Canadian Literary Centre are no longer available in the e-Library.
